Shore Excursion Discounts
Smarter, better-value port days in Australia and New Zealand, from Sydney Harbour to the fiords of the South Island.
Find your port »Plan Your Day Ashore
Getting good value from a port day down under is less about hunting for a coupon and more about planning. Many Australian and New Zealand cruise piers sit close to the sights, public transport is reliable, and a lot of the best experiences, from harbor walks to waterfront markets, cost nothing at all. Where a guided outing does make sense, booking it yourself and pairing two nearby sights in one trip usually stretches the day further.
This site covers eighteen ports in three groups: Australia’s east coast and tropical north, the southern and western states, and New Zealand. Each port page notes how close the ship ties up to town and lists rated shore excursions you can sort and compare.

Is it cheaper to book shore excursions independently or through the ship?
Independent tours are often better value and tend to run in smaller groups, but the cruise line will only hold the ship for its own tours. If you book on your own, choose outings that are built around ship schedules, finish with a generous margin before all-aboard and state what happens if your ship arrives late.
Does traveling in the shoulder season help?
It can. Early and late in the southern cruise season fewer ships share each port, so popular boats, wine tours and small-group trips are less likely to sell out and local operators are more flexible. The weather is milder too, though southern ports such as Hobart and Dunedin can be cool.
Which ports can I enjoy without paying for a tour?
Sydney, Hobart, Fremantle, Darwin, Auckland, Wellington and Napier all put the ship within walking distance of interesting streets, waterfronts and museums. A ferry ride, a local train or a self-guided walk often covers a full and satisfying day.
How can I get more out of one paid excursion?
Look for trips that combine sights that sit close together, such as a wildlife park and a wine region, or a reef boat that also stops at an island beach. If you are traveling with friends or family, a private car or guide shared among a small group can work out well and lets you set the pace.
